Notice Coming here to ask why I deleted your article? Read this page first...

If that doesn't help, read these FAQs.

1. Why did you delete my page when I hadn't finished writing it?

Answer: Don't create new articles unless you are sure they meet wikipedia's criteria, particularly notability and verifiability. If you want to practice, there is the sandbox facility and Wikipedia:Articles for creation where you can get a second opinion from a more experienced contributor. And if you really can't help yourself, use {{underconstruction}} so other people will know you are still working on it.

2. Why did you delete my page for advertising? I wasn't trying to advertise!

Answer: Read Wikipedia:NPOV for guidance on how to word an article so that it doesn't sound like an advertisement.

3. Why did you delete my page for advertising? It was about a non-profit organisation!

Answer: Non-profit organisations advertise all the time - it's still promotion and the rule applies to them just as it does to commercial bodies. See no 2 above.

4. Why did you delete my article without warning?

Answer: Because you are not entitled to a warning if you don't follow the guidelines. See no 1 above.

5. Why didn't you do a google search and find references for my article and put them in for me instead of just deleting it?

Answer: Because I don't have time to do the boring bits for you. I have enough boring bits of my own to work on, thank you.

6. You have a very interesting view of neutrality. The authors you give credence to have a definite point of view and you discount those that disagree.

Answer: There is of course no answer because this is not a question. It's a snide comment added by someone who doesn't understand the NPOV rule. Possibly a Ricardian revisionist.

And please SIGN YOUR POSTS, otherwise I don't know who is asking me the question!

@Debyou'll have to excuse my amature attempt at creating a legit wiki page, I am not trying hide anything, it is not easy creating a page here on Wikipedia.
I also didnt relaise I can add 'under construction' so people do not constantly delete my work.
Ill try again, for the 3rd time, to create a legit page about a real martial artist, following Wikipedia's many rules.

Deletion review for Elizabeth Shown Mills

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Elizabeth Shown Mills. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 17:56, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am here because you deleted the article, but not to disagree with your deletion. I can see that reasonable editors can disagree as to the interpretation of G11. I think that if more than half of the article needs to be deleted as promotional filler, it is exclusively promotional. I see that other editors disagree. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:17, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'm not too bothered either way. I go by the maxim that, if you do a lot of work, you make mistakes. Only if you do nothing constructive can you be perfect at what you do. Deb (talk) 08:39, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that you made a mistake anyway. You were in a minority. There were at least three editors who thought it was G11, the nominator, you, and me. Being in a minority does not mean being wrong, and it does not mean that the majority was wrong. It just means that there two opinions, and one of them was in the majority. Speedy Deletion of Rint Sybesma

[edit]

Hi,

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because it is based on articles for similar academics. The information listed is all about their professional activities, showing in particular that they have had substantial impact outside academia in their academic capacity. They are also the lead editor of an influential encyclopedia in their field.

I am an academic in a related field, but not close to the subject, I was advising my colleague Dr Sio on how to create the page.

Please restore it. Francis Bond (talk) 15:01, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Now that you have outed the author of the article, you've also confirmed that she has a personal connection with the subject. You should have informed her that she must declare a conflict of interest. If a decision is made to restore the article, it will be tagged as a COI. Deb (talk) 15:17, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I am sorry it is my first wikipedia article, I was not aware of the COI, which I would gladly declare. The last time I collaborated academically with the subject was 2008. We are not in the same university. I wanted to add a page for him because I noticed that he didn't have a page, and I think he is well-respected in the field. Where should I declare my COI? Olomoonlady (talk) 16:01, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can do this on your user page and also in the Talk page for the article. It is highly advisable for new contributors to create articles in draft space and submit them for review before attempting to put them into main space. I will remove some of the promotional content from your article and put it into draft, but you will need to submit for review so that you can get feedback from other users. About "Dans la vie, on fait caca musique !"

[edit]

Is it possible that's the patent nonsense LTA? I'm hesitant to open an SPI given that the title is in French rather than English. Phönedinger's jellyfish II (talk) 19:25, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't familiar with that user but it does sound as though it could be. Do you feel I should block that user? Deb (talk) 07:45, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not really sure. The draft text just seemed to be a poop joke, albeit a nonsensical one, and most of their enwiki nonsense has been in English and not are French. The account (I haven't checked since the draft got deleted) does match up with the username trends and behavior (create draft then vanish). I'll probably just file an SPI since it's a strong "maybe" at best. Phönedinger's jellyfish II (talk) 16:57, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

About Draft:Adidas Top Ten - thank you for thanking me, but I do note this muddle-headed wombat may possibly have gotten things wrong here

[edit]

@DrowssapSMM, Voorts, LeDroider, Bruxton, and Deb: I declined the WP:G6 speedy deletion of that draft, and somehow Adidas Top Ten still redirects to Adidas. I *think* I was right to decline the speedy as the draft had not been assessed by an AFC reviewer as ready for articlespace, but as something of a muddle-headed wombat when it comes to these technical sort of things, there is a good chance I got it wrong. Your thoughts about this? Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 09:52, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with what you did. There seems to be a lot of this stuff going on at the moment - people nominating unreviewed drafts for speedy deletion in the hope that we won't notice. However, the risk with a redirect is that they will simply add their text into the redirect and no one will notice. So I think I would have protected the page if there is any reason to suppose this might happen. Deb (talk) 11:30, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think there's a risk in this case. It's been almost two months since I draftified and nothing has happened. Perhaps Drowssap forgot to put the article under review before requesting G6. In any event, I don't think the draft is ready for mainspace. voorts (talk/contributions) 14:37, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Shirt58 I think declining the G6 is correct. Adidas Top Ten redirects to Adidas because I draftified that article and then removed the R2 tag and redirected to Adidas instead. voorts (talk/contributions) 14:34, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Shirt58, DrowssapSMM, Voorts, LeDroider, Bruxton, and Deb: Does this mean the page is good to revert back to the original? Can I create the page then for Adidas Top Ten? LeDroider (talk) 03:33, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you feel you must do so, create the page in draft, not in mainspace, and submit for review. Deb (talk) 10:31, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The No Spam Barnstar
Thanks for great work. Tehonk (talk) 08:16, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That article wasn't meant to look like an advertisement in any manner. I don't know why you called it such. Now how do I get it restored to further improve? An undeletion request failed. Kailash29792 (talk) 08:24, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you move it from draft - twice - without waiting for it to pass review? Deb (talk) 08:45, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do we have an agreement? We can restore this as a draft and then wait for it to pass? I just wish you had prodded it instead of unilaterally deleting it. That way I could have at least been notified and started improving the article to remove "mistakes". Kailash29792 (talk) 08:51, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Deb, when in doubt, you may tag it for CSD and let another admin take a call. And it's a good practice to do so even when not in doubt, unless it is a most obvious case. That way we have at least 2 editors having had a look at the page before deletion. I see we discussed about it before, and I did let it go at the time as I didn't argue as to why it was not a "most obvious case". I would see the current Senbaga Thottam deletion as a poor unilateral delete. WP:DRAFTOBJECT is allowed, and if you have a concern as an editor, you could AfD the article. If you find valid reasons for speedy, tag it. If you find concerns as an admin, and no one has tagged a page for speedy, you will have to have good reasons to justify a unilateral delete. Jay 💬 09:35, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Jay. And I find Deb's arguments - that the article looked like an "advertisement" - unconvincing. Either way I have submitted it for AfC again and hope it gets accepted. Kailash29792 (talk) 09:56, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's kind of you, but no two cases are alike, as those administrators who try to keep spam under control will be aware. I am pretty confused as to why the creator kept moving this article around, into and out of draft, under different names. It achieves nothing to argue the toss after an amicable compromise has been reached. Deb (talk) 14:45, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I hope this comes to an amicable conclusion after I share the complete fact: I started the article under the title Shenbaga, but moved it to draft as it was still sketchy. After completing work, I moved it back to the mainspace with the spelling Senbaga as it is correct. That's where I guess things fell apart, and Deb, I apologise for my indecision. I hope we can see the article back in the mainspace as I've done my best to make it look non-promotional. Kailash29792 (talk) 15:47, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries - I just don't think I should be the one to review it myself. Deb (talk) 16:15, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting urgent assist in WP:ANI

[edit]

Hey there Deb. Could you help take a look on this issue? Said IP address is acting in bad faith, refusing to cooperate or engage in discussions in their talk page, and even being aggresive and accused me of being a "racist" in bad faith on ANI. This is very unbecoming of a responsible editor. Appreciate your help on this. Thanks. hundenvonPG (talk) 12:56, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Deb, I saw your warning, but that IP address is persisting with their behaviour (adding scripts wholesale). I think action has to be taken. hundenvonPG (talk) 13:06, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll check back later. Deb (talk) 13:09, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
He is making racist statement by calling Jawi "unexplained arabic-like scripts" while he knows as a Malaysian that the script is a Jawi script and is used to write the Malay language alongside Latin. 180.75.238.55 (talk) 13:12, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's not a racist statement - don't falsely accuse other contributors. Deb (talk) 13:15, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is a Racist statement, he continuously make complains against the Jawi script. That is a racism because he knows Jawi is the traditional script of Malay language. 180.75.238.55 (talk) 13:15, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I challenge him to give me proof that Chinese and Tamil are official languages of Malaysia because he puts Chinese and Tamil on every placenames in Penang even though those towns have Malay names. 180.75.238.55 (talk) 13:16, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Deb for your intervention. I had always believed that WP should be collaborative & tried to raise that issue accordingly with said address. Just unfortunate that they didn't see it that way. I will keep you posted. hundenvonPG (talk) 13:52, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The only way that WP:G14 could apply to that page is if it disambiguated zero extant Wikipedia pages, however as it began as a redirect to Nibble, and as a plausible Template:R from unnecessary disambiguation, that is clearly not the case. As such please undelete the page, thank you. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:1DA2:B9FB:6228:587F (talk) 20:29, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, who are you and why are you asking questions about a page you have had nothing to do with? If you are a contributor who has access to deleted versions, please remember to sign in. Also, try and sort out your grammar. Deb (talk) 09:18, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It should have been obvious to anyone from the log that it was not WP:G14 eligible, no revisions needed. If I had needed to review revisions, I could have used a Wikipedia mirror or contacted an admin through e-mail or IRC. With quick informal messages the important part is that meaning is conveyed, but if poor grammar troubles you I can attempt to exercise more care in the future.
Finally, as Template:R from unnecessary disambiguations are sometimes retained at WP:RFD, the page is not eligible for WP:R3. Therefore please undelete the page again, thank you. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:154D:8DE5:E43F:9FAC (talk) 17:13, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you the same person as 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:1DA2:B9FB:6228:587F? Deb (talk) 18:31, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I'm on a dynamic IP range. Usually when I comment in a discussion that has not been a problem even when it came to altering my comments on RFD. When we previously discussed pages, for example Okoo, this has not been a problem either. I suppose there are other people on this range, but the odds of overlap in topical interest are small enough that I don't see it as a barrier to discussion. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:154D:8DE5:E43F:9FAC (talk) 18:55, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's always a problem when people conceal their identity and spend all their time on the kind of hit-and-run edits that you seem to specialize in. I'm unimpressed. Deb (talk) 18:56, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My identity is less-concealed then yours is, and I reject the assertion that I am a WP:HITANDRUN editor. Further it is not my job to impress you or anyone else, I don't care if I do, I only seek to follow policy. At the moment I am asking you to follow policy and undelete the page. Everything else is off-topic. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:154D:8DE5:E43F:9FAC (talk) 18:59, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

PA by IP at the page of a recently blocked editor

[edit]

Assuming this is some loutsocking - see Special:Diff/1212781741. I've refactored their talk page appropriately, though the IP will probably need some sort of brief block (either for evasion, or for the personal attacks). Schrödinger's jellyfish  18:00, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Schrödinger's jellyfish Apparently, Deb blocked the IP... indefinitely. I'm confused on why she put indefinitely, because I've never seen an IP be blocked indefinitely. I assume she meant to put something like a couple of weeks or months? Either that, or it was a pretty big mistake. I assume that there might be other people also using the IP, so Deb, if you're reading this, I might recommend changing the duration of the block for the IP. NoobThreePointOh (talk) 11:36, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I

[edit]

Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:

  • Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
  • Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
  • Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
  • Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
  • Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
  • Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
  • Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
  • Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
  • Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
  • Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
  • Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
  • Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
  • Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
  • Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
  • Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
  • Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
  • Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.

To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her), via:

The reason is that it conflicts with our neutral point of view policy. You are simply not allowed to express strong political opinions on your page, regardless of whether I agree with them or not. Deb (talk) 11:54, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

G6 deletions

[edit]

You seem to be repeatedly deleting things as G6 that clearly don't qualify:

  • Samdish Bhatia - deleting years of article history is never uncontroversial enough for G6, should have gone to RfD or AfD
  • April 4, 1968 - this was kept at RfD. A lone admin speedying something that survived a deletion discussion is egregiously out of process.
  • September 26, 1963 - ditto.
  • June 7, 2000 - given the two redirects above that survived RfD deleting this third one was clearly not uncontroversial

You've had numerous recent deletions overturned at deletion review. You really need to do better. * Pppery * it has begun... 23:23, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Luckily, I don't value your opinion. Deb (talk) 09:01, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So be it. Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2024 March 31#Various dates * Pppery * it has begun... 15:04, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. Approval of the draft can happen only with the move to articlespace, for.which the redirect has to be deleted. Hence, it was tagged with G6-AfC CSD. I cannot accept the article till the redirect is deleted. Thanks.

Hello,

I saw your note to User:Benmite after I noticed that another editor had tagged some of those collection of links for speedy deletion. I don't think they are intended as advertising. They seem to be intended either as a starting point for a userspace draft article or as potential additions to an existing mainspace article. Overall, the topics of the collections seem to be notable. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 17:07, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indian Motortcycle Manufacturing Company

[edit]

IMHO, redirect "Indian Motortcycle Manufacturing Company" should not have been speedy deleted, as it is a plausible typo. The "R" and the "T" keys are next to one another on the keyboard. Can you please enlighten me? --Jax 0677 (talk) 00:35, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Blue Imperial Rabbit Page

[edit]

Hello,

It did not seem to submit when I selected the button. Is it procedure to always submit an article for review, or only when you are first starting? If the former, why is it an option to publish immediately? I will try to use the "Article Wizard" program next time, but I don't really have another article in mind at the moment.Could you explain how I am not formatting references properly? I know you can include the lines from the source you are utilizing, but I don't normally see that in other articles. Or is it more technical? I believe a few citations I have made included extra spaces. I will try to correct that. I hope you found the article interesting and valuable. I have been making slight adjustments or corrections to other rabbit breed pages, but I haven't created any others. Most important and notable breeds are already featured and Blue Imperials were a conspicuously absent exception. Thank you, TanRabbitry

Post Script (I copied this from the other page in case you didn't see it. If you have just been too busy, I understand,

TanRabbitry (talk) 09:21, 22 April 2024 (UTC))[reply]

No, but it is the procedure for newish users not to create articles in mainspace. When it was in draft, you could have submitted it for review, which would have helped you get constructive comments from other contributors. It should have had the draft template at the top, which would have helped you see how to submit it. For reference formatting, see Wikipedia:Citing sources. Deb (talk) 09:26, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. TanRabbitry (talk) 18:33, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally, how many citations does the Blue Imperial page need added? Thank you,

TanRabbitry (talk) 09:22, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is no precise answer to that. I would suggest reading the relevant section of Wikipedia:Notability. Deb (talk) 18:49, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I believe under those criteria, the article fulfills its telos. It is only a short summary of the breeds history. I have only access to a finite number of books and sadly little (in proportion to its scope) of rabbit history is recorded "online." There are doubtless many, many books mentioning the Blue Imperial in its native country. I will try to add more references whenever I come across them in relevant books and/or articles. Thank you for your help,
TanRabbitry (talk) 23:38, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello,
I'm not sure if there is a place to report this and I don't know if this is only affecting me for some reason, but there seems to be an issue with the search engine on Wikipedia. When I type in a article title, it says there isn't an article named that, but when I press the "enter" button, it goes straight to that page. I tried this for several page names. Where can I report this/find out if this is somehow only a problem with my device? Thank you,
TanRabbitry (talk) 04:40, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
O.K., now it appears to be showing the article on the search engine, but only if I type in the full title. For example, I typed in "Kate Smit-" (the American singer Kate Smith) and it appeared only when the last letter was typed in. Any other time it shows article titles a few letters before the end. TanRabbitry (talk) 04:46, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I had that problem yesterday. If it's still happening, try the Wikipedia:Village pump. Deb (talk) 07:35, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I looked there and it appears to have affected several people, but has now been fixed. It is working for me again. Thank you,
TanRabbitry (talk) 19:15, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Deb
Hello,
I have made considerable improvements to the Blue Imperial article, including changes to the references. As far as I am concerned, it now needs only a picture added. Do you think it still requires additional citations or improvements? Thank you,
TanRabbitry (talk) 22:38, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Refs are okay but I don't think those huge quotes enhance the article. Are they really necessary? Deb (talk) 07:54, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deb, you deleted this as a recently-created implausible redirect; however, the archive table indicates that it was around since at least 2008. Please could you undelete it, so that it can undergo discussion at RfD if necessary? All the best, ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 14:21, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, sorry. I've undeleted it and deleted it with the correct criterion. Deb (talk) 15:13, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the re-deletion, I disagree that term is not mentioned in the destination article is an applicable use of G6, as (imo) it doesn't fit the scope of being a technical deletion. I still believe that it should undergo discussion at RfD prior to deletion; given its age, and given that it could be a valid {{R to article without mention}}. All the best, ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 15:21, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. If you want it back, just add the term "Sangerpedia" into the destination article somewhere. Deb (talk) 15:24, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't like piling on here, but this is pretty clearly a WP:!G6, and indeed Template:R without mentions are sometimes retained at WP:RFD. As such please undelete the page, and subsequently list at RFD, thank you. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:A165:7AFC:68F9:104D (talk) 15:31, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Of course you like piling on. That's your MO. So that's now two people who think it shouldn't have been deleted and two who think it should have. Deb (talk) 15:35, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer not personalize things, regardless if you remain unmoved please make that explicit and we can let the community decide with a dispassionate discussion at WP:DRV, thank you. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:A165:7AFC:68F9:104D (talk) 15:39, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you offer any evidence that the term was ever referred to as "Sangerpedia" by any independent source? If it was, it should be mentioned in the article, which would make the redirect plausible and I would be happy to restore it, as I've already stated above. If it wasn't, its use could be confusing for those unfamiliar with this project. Deb (talk) 15:47, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed that is an excellent rationale for an RFD nomination, but R3 only applies to recently created redirects and as I said this is pretty clearly a WP:!G6. Since there is no applicable WP:CSD criterion the appropriate way to get the page deleted is RFD. I make nominations there routinely, even of things I believe should be speedy-deletable. It takes very little time, in fact with the nomination statement pre-written you are probably only a handful of clicks, and less then 30 seconds away. The community strongly believes that following process is important in the area of deletion; in the end seeking to evade those processes will only cost everyone more time, including yourself. Please do us all a favor, undelete the page, and list at RFD, thank you. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:A165:7AFC:68F9:104D (talk) 15:53, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I already undid the R3 deletion. Deb (talk) 17:06, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I understand that, but it doesn't qualify for WP:G6 either. Personally I am not too much of a stickler for deletion log entries being perfect every time so long as a CSD does indeed apply, but in this case no CSD apply, so RFD is the way forward. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:A165:7AFC:68F9:104D (talk) 17:11, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A Concern

[edit]

@Deb

Hello,

I have a concern about an editor called Drmies. He reverted several edits I made to a page (Harrison Butker). I was trying to make it more balanced. He removed every edit with the excuse that one change I had made was wrong. I had removed the reference on the basis that a source was unreliable. He said it was. The source is described on the "Reliable Sources" page as being unreliable in the relevant area (politics and "societally sensitive issues"), so he either lied or was mistaken. Either way, why would every change be undone?

Additionally, while reporting a vandal, I noticed this statement: "I'm not going to block them for that one dumb-ass (sic) comment." This seems incredibly inappropriate language for both Wikipedia and especially an administrator. Shouldn't he be acting as a model editor, not using vulgar language? What should I, or what should in general, be done about this? Thank you,

TanRabbitry (talk) 04:36, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Deb
Hello,
I hope that you may tell me what would be the proper course of action here. Perhaps I am completely in the wrong here, but I do not see it. I attempted to apply the neutrality standard to a fairly inconsequential page that seemed to be lacking. The editor Drmies has repeatedly mischaracterized my actions, reversed them for no reason and resorted to personal attacks. He accused me of adding a line I did not, claimed unreliable sources were reliable, accused me of adding personal "commentary" into an article and in this comment, he misstated a change I proposed, insulted me and repeadly used obscenity. Also I don't know what he means by "counterpart." I don't know what to do. I have countered every point he has made and he is still intent on lying about me, my intentions and my actions. He has removed properly sourced material , due to his obvious and admitted bias. Isn't he in the wrong? Every time I respond, answer or counter, he changes the subject. I have also tried to remain polite and assume good intentions and he has repeatedly spoken very inappropriately and lied in his attacks. What should I do? Additionally, his accusation regarding reporting editors had to do with blatant vandals. I reported one, decided to take the initiative and warned them personally, then added an explanation to the vandal reporting page asking for correction if I made a mistake. I don't know what he's implying about that, but yet again he attacks me dishonestly and without cause.
TanRabbitry (talk) 02:08, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Deb
I intend for this to be my final message on this subject until you respond (there is no rush, I do not expect an instant or fast answer). I wrote a careful and exact summary, covering much of his actions and I asked him to actually answer for once, instead of changing the subject or resorting to personal attacks. Instead, he responded with an extremely childish and obscene non-answer. I take that as a tacit, but full admission of his wrongdoing. Thank you,

Request to Recreate Draft:RG Qluck Wise

[edit]

Dear @Deb,

I trust this message finds you in good spirits. I am reaching out to request permission to recreate the draft for the article on RG Qluck Wise, a notable Ghanaian record producer, author, and graphic designer.

Recognizing previous challenges leading to the deletion of the article, including concerns regarding notability and promotional language, I have diligently reviewed the deletion log and taken proactive measures to address these issues:

Notability: Extensive research has been conducted to ensure RG Qluck Wise's alignment with Wikipedia's notability guidelines for musicians, authors, and graphic designers. I have gathered reliable secondary sources to solidify his significance in these domains.

Neutral Tone: The article content has undergone thorough revision to eliminate any promotional language or bias. It now maintains a neutral and factual tone, focusing on delivering an objective overview of RG Qluck Wise's career and accomplishments.

Draft Status: Rather than directly resubmitting the article to the main space, my intention is to recreate it as a draft. This approach allows for further refinement and peer review before seeking publication.

Confident that the revised draft meets Wikipedia's rigorous standards and guidelines for inclusion, I seek your guidance and approval to ensure adherence to the correct procedure before proceeding.

Thank you sincerely for your time and consideration. I am receptive to any feedback or suggestions you may have to enhance the article further.

Warm regards,

  • Thank you, Deb (and User:Gildir as well), for joining the discussion that we recently had with another editor about our views on organization within the month articles. This is essentially the same message that I sent to Gildir as well, which is that my feeling is that we've all tried to abide by the idea that notability is the primary concern, i.e., that some events are more notable than others; and I feel that there's an objective measure of notability, based on the extent to which something is covered in books, newspapers and other media. I also feel that shifting around items with no reasonable explanation (or reverting other people's choices about shifting items in a pattern that can be explained, such as WP:GNG or WP:N would qualify as disruptive editing, if not worse. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on how things should be organized.Mandsford 16:44, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cancellation of Dr. Kamol Pansritum

[edit]

Good afternoon Deb,

I believe there is a misunderstanding regarding the deletion of the article on Dr. Kamol Pansritum. I am not a Wikipedia expert and have likely made some beginner's mistakes.

Firstly, I have no professional connection with Dr. Pansritum; I have never even met him.

Secondly, my intention was absolutely not to advertise. Dr. Pansritum was born in 1959, is nearing retirement, and does not need any publicity.

I wrote this article because I have a friend who was affected by gender dysphoria (a condition recognized by the WHO). Two years ago, Dr. Pansritum underwent male-to-female gender reassignment surgery. After a suicide attempt, the life of my friend has completely changed. He/she is now happy to be alive.

I did not know much about the medical field of gender transition, so I spent a year conducting general and specific research on Dr. Pansritum.

I discovered his numerous medical publications in specialized journals, which have helped his international colleagues advance their surgical techniques.

Could you kindly explain how to proceed according to Wikipedia regulations?

Thank you in advance for your assistance,

Arnold

PS: I am French and have been living in Thailand for 20 years. I own a primary care clinic in Phuket (Medical Angels), which has no commercial ties with Dr. Pansritum. Although Thailand is a developing country, it excels in certain disciplines and specialties. I am convinced that the world needs to be informed about this. Since long time Thailand is globally recognized for its surgical expertise in gender reassignment.

Siraped3 (talk) 05:56, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I understand, but your article was written in rather cringing promotional language, all about how wonderful Dr Pansritum is - which is, at best, your personal view. You should begin by reading the Wikipedia:Neutral point of view policy, which will point you in the direction of other pages you can read to help you re-write the article. To begin with, don't start an article title with "Dr". You won't find any others like that, not for real people. Also, don't write an article in the form of a CV as you did in this case. We won't allow that. Good luck with your rewrite. Deb (talk) 08:17, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Deb, for your prompt response. I will follow your advice and try to improve with the utmost tenacity. Siraped3 (talk) 02:41, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good morning,
I have written a new article proposal following Deb's wise advice, which seems more in line with Wikipedia's philosophy. I tried to submit it for review, but without success. Could you kindly let me know how to submit this new article to you? Thank you in advance.
Siraped3
Siraped3 (talk) 06:13, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All you have to do to submit the article for review is to click on the blue panel that says "Submit for review". However, after a quick glance, I can see that it is still written in highly promotional language and contains external links within the text, so it will not pass a review in its present state. You haven't even corrected the title. Deb (talk) 07:16, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot correct the title; the application does not allow me to. Should I submit a new article? Siraped3 (talk) 09:26, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The modify article is the following: Kamol Pansritum (MD) is a Thai surgeon specializing in gender affirming surgery (GRS and FFS). Born on November 11, 1959, in Nong Khai, Thailand, he is renowned for his expertise in this field.

The word "renowned" has to come out, for a start, and all the stuff about him being a "pioneer" unless you can back that up as an independent statement. Also "With several decades of experience" belongs in a CV, not in a Wikipedia article. Deb (talk) 09:32, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It can be moved. Why did you recreate it at the same title as before? Deb (talk) 09:30, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! Deb, Hi there, Please help me, I don't known but How I added a bite of Copyright content on my article during creation and I don't access to the above link but I removed Copyright content but currently need to copyvio-revdeletion as per R1 creteria, I'm aware about the WP:CV policies but In future, If create article then I bear in my mind my creation is not in copyvio. Happy editing --- ᗩvírαm7(@píng mє-tαlk mє) 14:14, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think what you're asking is how you came to include copyrighted content in your article, and I don't know the answer to that. However, the article in its present state isn't up to standard and needs to be returned to draft so you can get help from other contributors. Deb (talk) 14:18, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Deb,thanks for your reply, but I am talking about copyvio-revdel here, can you hide some copyvio old revisions from this article, but I cannot move this article back to draft namespace as per WP:DRAFTIFY, but I will try to improve this article by editing by other experienced editors.Happy editing --- ᗩvírαm7(@píng mє-tαlk mє) 14:43, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Certainly it's possible to hide old revisions. Why can't you move it back to draft? Deb (talk) 15:01, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Khot, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

[edit]

Hello, you deleted Khot, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last October as part of sorting out a sockpuppetry page move mess by sockpuppeteer User:Najaf ali bhayo. Looks like it then got recreated, then moved by User:Ivanvector and EC protected, yet a confirmed-only new SPA has just moved commenced editing it, along with similar page moves to last time. Could you please take a look again? Thanks, Wikishovel (talk) 15:18, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I've changed the protection. Let's see if that helps. Deb (talk) 15:32, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but how was a new autoconfirmed account able to edit an EC-protected article? Wikishovel (talk) 15:34, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know the answer to that one. Maybe ask at the Village Pump. Deb (talk) 15:43, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is a good question. Seems like all the disruptive repetitive page moves also messed up the protection settings somehow, but I can't follow the logs to be sure. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 17:19, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello User:Deb, I hope you're doing well. Can you delete the Sitaare Zameen Par (film) redirect so that I can move Sitaare Zameen Par (2024 film). Thanks for your consideration. — C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 15:55, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deb, it’s a great thing for Wikipedia to have you as an administrator. We can’t pay you for all you do :) You’re also a great and important asset here, and your work both as an editor and administrator is very much noticed and appreciated. Thanks for attending to speedies, AIV and UAA, amongst others. I hope you’re also doing great in health (and wealth :)). Deletion of Claude-3.5

[edit]

Hey Deb, I noticed you deleted Claude-3.5

I believe this AI model deserves encyclopediac coverage as it's the world's currently most advanced large language model. I can understand if the article was written in a promotional tone, however I do not believe that it falls under G11. The article was still a work in progress.

Can this be restored, either as a draft or mainspace so I can continue working on it, and adding additional content and improving the tone. Mr Vili talk 04:36, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Please feel free to recreate the article in draft. That's the place for work in progress. Deb (talk) 07:21, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mind downgrading these two pages to PC indefinitely? You protected them indefinitely half a decade ago.102.158.177.209 (talk) 03:43, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Protection duly amended. Deb (talk) 08:32, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why did you downgrade move-protection to autoconfirmed access? Also, I can still see it indefinite edit-protected.197.2.202.104 (talk) 18:17, 7 July 2024 (UTC)I forgot to sign my comment. Apologies.[reply]
Can't reply unless you log in. Deb (talk) 18:53, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, you pointed out an error on the move protection, which I've now corrected. I've downgraded the editing protection whilst still minimising the risk of unreferenced content being introduced, which is a major problem with many of the date articles. As soon as you're autoconfirmed, you'll be able to edit. Deb (talk) 19:01, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do not have concerns with your protection alteration. My concern now is the first one is indefinite edit-protected, while the latter is time-limited. Can you set a time limit instead of indefinite, while keeping both PCs indefinite?197.2.202.104 (talk) 19:11, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I could, but why? Deb (talk) 07:43, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can see one reason why Deb is wasting her time trying to reply to the annoying requests of this logged-out editor, and that is that their IP address has shifted once, which illustrates one reason why logged-out editors should be ignored. It makes very little difference whether they have an account and are logged out, or do not have an account and should create an account. My advice to Deb is to ignore the logged-out editor, but if they persist in asking useless questions, to semi-protect her talk page for three days. Robert McClenon (talk) 12:50, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the advice. Deb (talk) 12:58, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Page patrol

[edit]
  • Hello, Deb. If you make any changes that are reverted without an explanation-- or at least without an adequate explanation-- please let me know, and I'll be happy to step in. I'm getting ready to go over the 1960s month articles and begin arranging the sequence of events in individual sections, based on the WP:N, an objective standard based upon the amount of mention of such events in books and newspaper accounts as the measure of notability of an event. I don't intend to delete any additions that are cited to reliable and verifiable sources, but on any rearrangements that have been done without an edit summary to explain the reason for the repositioning, I will feel free to make fixes based on a notability standard. If you know any other editors who have faced the same problem, please alert them. Thanks.Mandsford 14:47, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks, I'll try and keep an eye on it. I know that in the past - before it was decided that everything in lists has to be referenced - I probably introduced some problem entries myself. Over time, perhaps we can sort them out. Deb (talk) 14:56, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Socking

[edit]

Hi Deb. I looked around and found that the user JessicaMIchault probably also had two sock accounts (Mrs. Jessica Michault, Jessica at Odda). Both have been stale for years, so I doubt there's any use in taking it to SPI. Still, adding that to the promotional edits of the master account, is it enough to tip the scale to a block? --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 21:58, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Probably. I'll look into it later. Deb (talk) 07:27, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Premium Guard Inc.

[edit]

Did you think it was unambiguous advertising, with no encyclopedic value? Maybe the next time I come across something like it, I may tag it for G11 rather than spending time checking that the sources are press releases.

What is a Ricardian revisionist? Does that have to do with Richard III of England rather than David Ricardo? Is that someone who defends the reputation of that king? Robert McClenon (talk) 18:08, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Robert McClenon: I think the main problem with the article is that there's a fairly obvious undeclared COI even if the wording of the article is debatable. The creator first drafted it in his sandbox (where there is still a version) and then moved it straight to mainspace without submitting for review (which I believe it would have failed). I know people often argue the toss about whether obvious promotional intent is a reliable indicator of promotional content, and I do get that. Deb (talk) 12:29, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Page Patrol, part II

[edit]

Hello-- I did get a response from one user, and wanted to share that along with my answer.

Hello Mandsford, we've discussed about your plan to revert my edits I did between March and May of this year and I need to know this. So about the "which article is "notable" and which article isn't" talk back in late May, I wanna know why in one of your changes on the June 17, 1963 section you did not put the infamous Vietnam riots in the top? Wouldn't that be more notable? I fail to see how that is not notable then the articles on that section. You probably know what I'm talking about since I just saw your edits in June 1963. Also, I wanna know more about why my edits aren't allowed for the 1960s wiki pages. Are my edits breaking any rules here or is it just because you don't like the way I changed all the stuff in order of how my sentences they have? I am genuinely curious about why it is a big deal. Arcadia (talk) 09:05, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I replied to him or her as follows:

Hello, Arcadia16. I appreciate your statement. Please feel free to put put the Vietnam riots entry on top of the June 17 section if you believe that that event is more notable. Wikipedia is the encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and perhaps the Vietnam riots were the more notable even of the day. In addition, additional events that you've discovered through your own research are welcome anytime. However, I've seen from your talk page that you seem to believe that everyone else who has done the work of researching and writing has created "a jumbled mess" and that you intend to re-arrange items to satisfy your criteria that you have "changed all the stuff in order of how many sentences they have." Notwithstanding that this number-of-sentences isn't the way that almanacs or encyclopedias are usually organized, or that by that measure a person could move an event upward or downward by adding or deleting sentences, there is a policy summarized in Wikipedia:Notability (events), in particular the section about Inclusion criteria (which can be found at Wikipedia:Notability (events)#Inclusion criteria. The ranking in the criteria includes "enduring historical significance" and "widespread (national or international) impact" or having been "widely covered in diverse sources", or having the notability of being re-analyzed afterward. You asked whether your edits are breaking any rules, and I would note that "changing all the stuff" in an arbitrary manner would likely be considered disruptive editing. You aren't the first editor to attempt a mission of wanting to change everything, though attempting to change all 120 of the 1960s articles is a wider ambition than we usually see. Rather than looking at the other editors as unworthy opponents, joining us in collectively building and adding to a project. We've worked hard on building these articles, and we invite you to add to them, as well as to add to the project by addressing those that have not been covered (an example cited before would be January 1957, which is simply a redirect to 1957. You can make a lot of great contributions to Wikipedia. However, attempting a massive overhaul of what others have done will receive a response.Mandsford 15:54, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the long explanation; at this point, I think it's time to patrol articles again.Mandsford 15:54, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Mandsford and Arcadia16: I feel it's very important not to make these pages US-centric. I'm not sure on what basis an event that contributed to the Vietnam War should be considered more significant than anything else that happened that day. In fact, since the build-up to that war and the war itself went on for so many years, and most people around the world have never heard about most of the events that took place during it (including these riots), I would argue that most of the individual events relating to a war are less significant than other major events that occurred on the same date. As a matter of fact, in this particular case I would have put ASCII at the top, because of its global impact, which comes from its influence on the development of information technology, not from the fact that it originated from the US. I haven't stopped patrolling these articles; that said, I wouldn't change the order of events on a specific day unless I think that there is an obvious tendency to favour one event over others which are equally or even more significant. Deb (talk)

I agree with you on ASCII, and had placed ASCII it as the lead in my modifications, and the re-introduction of poison gas in warfare as a lead story. I'm not sure what the significance is of some of the news from the U.S. space program; even Gildir, who added much of the NASA entries, didn't intend for routine items about the Gemini program to be a lead story of the day. However, I hope that the point has been made to others that in writing about history, Wikipedia policy remains for the more notable, or historic items, to take priority rather than re-arrangements without regard to significance.Mandsford 15:47, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Birth and death lists

[edit]

I have readded the entry with a source, but I would like to note that barely any of the existing entries have sources. Sources are rarely required for the older years for lists like these AFAICT. I do not understand why you would revert my addition without doing anything about the massive number of existing unsourced entries on those pages (almost all of them were unsourced). I would appreciate it if you could please explain this to me. Thanks, QuicoleJR (talk) 14:29, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Who says I'm not doing anything about them? I've been "doing something about them" since the new guidelines were agreed by the community in 2018. Take a look at my edits. The problem is that there are thousands and thousands of such entries, and some contributors are still adding unreferenced edits, which just makes the job harder. Deb (talk) 14:31, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, OK. I did not know this. I apologize for the inconvenience and I will try to remember to add sources with new entries in the future. QuicoleJR (talk) 14:37, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and if you ever feel like helping out... :-) Deb (talk) 14:39, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not the creator of Draft:UK-Med, which you just deleted, but I noticed that it had been tagged for speedy deletion as advertising. I added some references, but you might have been working from an earlier version of the draft. I think the topic is notable despite the fact that it reads a bit like advertising. LeapTorchGear (talk) 08:12, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but reading like advertising is a reason for speedy deletion, in which case notability is not relevant. Deb (talk) 08:15, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Parkland College Institute of Aviation

[edit]

Hello Deb, If you would please help us by letting us know how we can get this article up and not have it pulled down any longer, we'd appreciate it. I cannot understand the specific reason it has been pulled down this time, unless it's that we've referenced the wiki for the U of I's Institute of Aviation. If that's the only reason, I'm happy to remove it. Pcfan83 (talk) 17:31, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you keep saying "we"? Are you writing on behalf of the organisation? Deb (talk) 17:37, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am the marketing director of the college. Pcfan83 (talk) 17:41, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why have you not declared your conflict of interest on your user page as requested? Deb (talk) 18:07, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have placed it on the user page. When I started contributing to Wikipedia nearly 20 years ago, I didn't know I needed to have a user page. I'm afraid I'm quite the older user... Pcfan83 (talk) 18:38, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedians don't have to have a user page. But if you have a COI, you must declare it. Also, we don't allow user accounts to be used by more than one person, which your wording implies you are doing. As you are being paid to promote the college, you need to create an article that is neutral, such that no one reading it would be able to tell that you work for them. At the moment, it's blatantly obvious from the wording. In fact, it's obvious from the very first sentence. It would be a good idea for you to practise editing with small changes to other articles before you try to create one from scratch. Deb (talk) 20:35, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your time. Pcfan83 (talk) 22:53, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Space Power Deletion

[edit]

Hey Deb,

I really appreciate the role you play in the community (no sarcasm!)- I wanted to just give a heads up that I will be rewriting the Space Power article that was recently deleted. The job had been given to an intern and they ran with it in the opposite direction to what had been briefed... I read the article and totally understand why it was ripe for deletion.

I will be writing the article to give a solid background to how Power works in Space, and their specific intricacies, challenges and developments. I hope to maintain this as the technology and industry develops.

If possible, please afford me a bit of leniency whilst I write my first article (I read about he sandbox etc., but I do think I can get it without too much handholding) - there are a few different sources I will need to dig up so I will understand some citations needed as I work on this.

Many thanks,

Keval Thesuperkev (talk) 17:15, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thanks for letting me know, but you do realise that giving someone the "job" of writing a Wikipedia article about your company means that they must immediately declare paid COI editing (and so must you)? I recommend reading Wikipedia:When your boss tells you to edit Wikipedia for additional guidance. Deb (talk) 12:01, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah right... this was more of a favour outside of his direct job.
We do a fair bit of volunteering / education streams that aren't directly 'paid'. I'm doing this in my free time, as I do engineering workshops for kids etc., so I just categorised this in the same way. Thesuperkev (talk) 12:37, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's okay, but if you have a link to the company, you must declare it. The problem that mostly occurs is that people who are connected find they aren't able to abide by the neutral point of view policy, which is non-negotiable. If you are able to write neutrally about the subject, the fact that you have declared a COI won't automatically lead to your draft being deleted. Deb (talk) 12:43, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions for improving Draft: Hilary DeCesare

[edit]

Dear expert editor, I am writing to request you for helping me with my article as mentioned in the subject. I have now tried to fix the issues and removed an information taken from a blog just yesterday but there is no further response to it. Could you please tell me ways to improve it rathe than deletion as the subject is a notable person, has media appearance, as well as popularity in the field of trade. Awaiting your worthy suggestion.

Please declare your conflict of interest before you go any further. Deb (talk) 09:23, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is all as transparent as a water. My soul purpose of working on this article is to practice and understand the workings of Wikipedia. My sister work as a freelancer on Upwork and freelancer. Since I have been writing articles and other content writing jobs outsourced to me, Wikipedia is something I never tried but was confident that I can do it. She therefore, requested me to create an article for this person after herself checking her notability. The subject's assistance has paid some amount (60 USD) to my sister already and is now after her to get it done and it is all because of me that my sister is caught into trouble. I hereby declare declare that I don't have any personal links to the subject except for the issue mentioned. I seriously need your assistance please. Sehar Awais (talk) 09:38, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See Wikipedia:Paid editing (guideline) and Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure to find our what you must do. Deb (talk) 11:30, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Deb, I have disclosed my status as an occasionally paid contributor on this platform. What is next? Sehar Awais (talk) 06:20, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You've read the guidelines. Please act in accordance with these at all times. You know that paid editing is discouraged. You should also be aware that any article you succeed in creating will be tagged accordingly. Deb (talk) 06:26, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I will. Could you please take a look at it now? Sehar Awais (talk) 07:45, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion, there is no chance of it passing review at present. The references are inadequate to demonstrate notability and the wording makes it obvious that it was written to order. Deb (talk) 07:47, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Despite the fact that it has been already labelled as a stub article? Sehar Awais (talk) 07:49, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't have anything to do with whether it's ready for article space. Writing one book and founding a small company that is now defunct do not make a person notable. Deb (talk) 07:52, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So I shouldn't be clicking the submit for review button? Sehar Awais (talk) 07:55, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you want it to fail the review, by all means submit it. I would, however, advise you not to bother. Unless you can produce some new facts that demonstrate this person's notability, you are just wasting your time. There are very few successful paid contributors, because the task of neutral editing requires not only considerable skill but also a worthwhile subject. Deb (talk) 07:58, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok Dear, thankyou so much for your precious time and valuable suggestions. I am truly grateful.
Best Regards,
Sehar. Sehar Awais (talk) 08:00, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am not sure why you deleted my page, what was the rush? Didn't I tell you I am going to re-write the parts that you claim were "promotional"? Shanytc (talk) 03:58, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

also locking it making it unfair for others to write about it in the future as well. wikipedia is a free open place where information should be shared. Shanytc (talk) 04:00, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Then use Wikipedia:Articles for Creation facility. And you still haven't declared your conflict of interest as is required. Deb (talk) 07:05, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please move Muzaffar Aazim back to mainspace

[edit]

On April 13, you draftified the page and protected it from recreation. You did so despite WP:DRAFTOBJECT explicitly stating not to unilaterally draftify articles which have already been moved back to mainspace more than once, as was the case here. Moreover, this article was already nominated for deletion and kept, meaning that a requirement the article pass through AfC as a draft conflicts with WP:AFCR, which instructs reviewers that The purpose of reviewing is to identify which submissions will be deleted and which won't. Articles that will probably survive a listing at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion should be accepted. Since the article did pass AfD, any AfC reviewer's opinions are irrelevant. By making it impossible for non-admins to move the article back, you have WP:SUPERVOTED away the consensus found at AfD, which was that the article was suitable for mainspace (anyone who wanted to draftify the article could have !voted as such there). Please revert your page protection and draftification. Cheers, Mach61 22:59, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, okay. As it stands it's hugely promotional and easily meets G11. Deb (talk) 13:39, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Deb That cannot possibly be true. The page already survived a deletion discussion. Speedy deletion is intended to reduce the time spent on deletion discussions for pages or media with no practical chance of surviving discussion. Mach61 13:44, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The promotional content was added after the deletion discussion concluded in March. The article has had considerable expansion since then, so I have taken it back to where it was when the deletion discussion concluded. It failed a review after it was placed in draft. Deb (talk) 14:10, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Mach61 17:25, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 18:45, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Deb,

I was surprised that you blocked this editor for username reasons. He has been editing Wikipedia on and off for 17 years and it's always been evident that he is Richard Elfman and he has edited the article about himself. So, there are clear COI issues but I don't see a username violation and your blocking notice was very vague about what exactly is wrong with his username. If you think he needs to confirm that he is indeed Richard Elfman, well, that is a different template and it doesn't require that he choose a different username from his actual name. And it seems like COI is the problem here which could happen even if he picks a different username, there is no problem with his actual username that I can see. I hope you can consider my query into this block. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:44, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bearing in mind his involvement in probable meatpuppetry, I don't think he should be allowed to continue in this way. What alternative do you suggest? Deb (talk) 07:16, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requested deletion of Erection Hardness Score redirect

[edit]

Hello Deb,

I requested the deletion of the redirect at Erection Hardness Score to make way for my draft, Draft:Erection Hardness Score. I'm not quite sure what you meant by "wait until the draft has passed review". I won't be submitting this to AfC, if that's what you meant. Please let me know. Thank you. ~~~~ Mooonswimmer 16:13, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's already at AfC. Why did you create it in draft if you weren't going to ask for a review? Deb (talk) 16:18, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm confused. There is no AfC tag on my draft. I did not submit it for reviewal.
Submitting a draft for review at AfC is optional, no? I created it in draft as I often do with articles I might need more time to develop before publishing. Mooonswimmer 16:48, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I understand. I needed to check the history again to make sure it wasn't protected. I can delete it for you. Deb (talk) 16:58, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This article wasn't meant to look like an advertisement in any manner. I don't know why you called it such, and delated it. It was an academic research page from a Columbia NY university teacher. Now how do I get it restored to further improve?

draft page titled "Durus Industries Pvt Ltd"

[edit]

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to discuss the recent deletion of the Wikipedia draft page titled "Durus Industries Pvt Ltd", which was removed on 16 September 2024 under G11, for being deemed "unambiguous advertising or promotion."

I understand the importance of maintaining Wikipedia's standards, and I want to clarify the intent behind the page. The goal was to document the long history of Durus Industries, particularly its contribution to the soccer ball manufacturing industry, which has spanned over a century.

The draft was meant to highlight Durus Industries' impact on the sports goods sector and the historical context of soccer ball manufacturing, not as a promotional stunt. I fully appreciate the distinction between historical documentation and advertising, and I would be happy to make any necessary adjustments to the content to align with Wikipedia’s guidelines.

I would appreciate your guidance on how to proceed in a way that maintains the informational value while complying with Wikipedia’s policies. Your expertise would be invaluable in helping me present this important piece of industrial history in a neutral and informative manner.

look forward to your response Trot 43245 (talk) 07:47, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I just had another look at this and it's pretty obvious that either you have an undeclared conflict of interest (i.e. you have some connection with the company) or you have copied most of the article from the company's promotional material. You haven't included any independent references to back up anything you say in the article, and until you are able to do so, the article has no chance of survival, regardless of whether you are able to rewrite it in accordance with our Wikipedia neutral point of view policy. Deletion Review for (Green TV Entertainment)

[edit]

Hi,

I recently submitted an article about Green TV Entertainment, which was unfortunately rejected for being considered promotional. I would like to kindly request you to reconsider the article. My intent was not to promote the channel but to present a neutral, well-referenced piece that provides factual information.

As I am relatively new to Wikipedia, I recognize that there may have been unintentional errors in the tone or structure. I have tried to follow Wikipedia’s guidelines to the best of my ability, using authentic references to ensure accuracy. I would appreciate it if you could restore my article and kindly guide me on the necessary revisions to align it with Wikipedia's standards. Zohaib Alee (talk) 09:12, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You've already been given a lot of guidance. I'm not going to restore your article because it was promotionally worded, and you must declare any conflict of interest, whether or not you intend your articles to be promotional. Deb (talk) 13:19, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your feedback and for taking the time to review my submission. I sincerely apologize for the mistakes made in the initial article. I understand the importance of neutrality and adhering to Wikipedia’s guidelines. I assure you to rewrite the whole article, using new references and ensuring it to be neutral without any promotional tone.
I kindly request you to restore the article so I can make the necessary revisions. I’m committed to follow Wikipedia's standards and would greatly appreciate your instructions moving forward. 39.60.125.32 (talk) 09:50, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Erm - who are you? why aren't you logged in? Deb (talk) 12:33, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for the confusion in my last message, I mistakenly submitted my reply without being logged in. To clarify, I am Zohaib Alee, the author of the article on Green TV Entertainment and the person who initiated this discussion.
I kindly request that you reconsider restoring the article. I understand your concerns and will take all necessary steps to rewrite it, ensuring it is completely neutral, using new references, and avoiding any promotional language. Please guide me with any additional changes that are required. Zohaib Alee (talk) 08:48, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The guidelines are there for your guidance. Please read and follow them. Also, please remember to declare any conflict of interest and be aware that, if you recreate the article, it's likely to be tagged as a COI edit. Deb (talk) 10:58, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have read the guidelines thoroughly and will ensure they are fully implemented. I understand the importance of adhering to the rules and declaring any potential conflict of interest.
However, the article has not yet been restored, which limits me to make the necessary edits. Could you kindly restore it so I can proceed with the revisions in line with the guidelines? Zohaib Alee (talk) 09:27, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I'm surprised to be asked this question yet again, as I've made it clear that I'm not going to restore the promotional version. If you feel you can write neutrally about the topic, please start again from scratch. Deb (talk) 11:15, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am planning to start the article from scratch but, the page with this name is unavailable. That’s why I am kindly requesting you to restore the draft so I can recreate it under the same name.
If the decision regarding the restoration is final, I would appreciate your guidance on how to write a new article with the same name. I’ve researched extensively, but I haven’t found any other way to proceed, as it is mentioned everywhere that the editor who deleted the article should be consulted first. Zohaib Alee (talk) 15:49, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What you say about the name of the draft is completely untrue. If you can't write a neutral draft in accordance with the guidelines, I suggest you give up on it. You've also been told multiple times to declare your connection with the companies you are working for, and you have repeatedly ignored this instruction. I am now going to block you from my Talk page so that you can't keep coming back here hoping for a different answer to the same question. Deb (talk) 15:53, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AadiExplore block

[edit]

Hi Deb, The block of AadiExplore seems very appropriate. I did link the user in a Sock report about RS ArticleArchitect here but malformed it and it had already been processed before I noticed my mistake. Is there any mileage also looking at potential socking and perhaps sleepers? There seem so many new editors swaming round some of these new articles that it looks like a big sock farm in operation. I suspect that if I report it, an admin will slap it down with "already blocked" which may leave socks and sleepers still out there. Any actions you think appropriate would be great, and if this is innapropriate, apologies. Many thanks  Velella  Velella Talk   13:44, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There's probably, or rather definitely, more than one sock farm in operation. I wouldn't hesitate to report anything you think is suspicious. You need to have some evidence, but this can simply consist of editing patterns. Deb (talk) 14:24, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I know you've protected Draft:Tarun Pal, any chance you want to take a look at doing the same at Tarun Pal. Thanks, Bobby Cohn (talk) 15:54, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting Deleted Material for Draft: Intoact International

[edit]

Hi @Deb,

I am new to the Wikipedia scene and would appreciate your help.

I understand the reason that my draft was deleted; however, I was not previously aware of it. We had issues that were presumably solved last time around, which is why I submitted the draft for publishing.

Nevertheless, I would appreciate it if I could have the deleted material for the article for my future reference and optimization.

Thank you. If this is not the right way to reach out to you, I apologize; as I said earlier, I am new to the scene. Thanks for understanding. - Shahine Freiha (talk) Shahine Freiha (talk) 11:31, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As an employee of a "Digital Marketing training and consulting company", I don't think it's unreasonable to expect you to read the Wikipedia guidelines before trying to create an article - as all new users are advised to do. I won't be restoring the promotional material; if you want to create this article you have to do the work, and I highly recommend you start from scratch, this time following the guidelines to which you've been referred. No one except your colleagues is paid to sort this problem out for you. Deb (talk) 13:21, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, @Deb. Thank you for your response.
I understand that the content does not fit within Wikipedia's guidelines. However, I would appreciate it if you could let me restore the content for my personal reference, as it will not be used for Wikipedia in any way, shape, or form. Shahine Freiha (talk) 07:40, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You mean you didn't keep a copy on your own PC? That was very short-signed of you. But if you want it restored, you'll need to ask someone else. Deb (talk) 15:31, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked user requesting IP unblock

[edit]

Hi Deb. You spamublock-ed the user Onpointmarketing (thank you, BTW). After some discussion with the user, they agreed to abandon the account. However, they also said that they would like their IP unblocked "for our staff's break time to write non-onPoint content". What do you think? Do you trust them? --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 02:35, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely not. Their staff can create their own IDs - and if more than one person is using the same computer, that would be far safer for them as well as for us. Deb (talk) 11:21, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Vecteezy - I'm sorry!

[edit]

Hi Deb. I'm sorry I didn't follow the proper procedure for the latest drafting of the Vecteezy article. I know that the article has had a bit of sordid history and should have been more careful. I've been slowly working on other articles in the vector graphic space and I wanted to see if this article could ultimately be salvaged. I thought it was possible since the (second?) AfD spurred many great suggestions from other editors. At the very least, I should have used the underconstruction template in the draft when I asked for feedback.

Is there any chance of a reprieve here for the draft with the correct templates in place? I know my edits to Wikipedia aren't as academic as I wish they were - I guess I'm not as cultured as I could be. :-/ But! I aim for my contributions about commercial entities and products to always conform to NPOV, notability standards, etc., and try to balance writing that could feel "promotional" with mentions of any controversies reported by upstanding news sources.

Thank you for your time and consideration. :) Little cap (talk) 03:40, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
